Gucci Spring 2027: What Did Demna Put on the Shelves?

The Store Show, between propriety and sensuality: a wardrobe for the people who wear Gucci

Before the show, Gucci’s Instagram teaser was a group chat for the shoe team. Someone asks whether the shoes have arrived, and messages about coordinating new color assignments with the factory scroll past. Then comes the reply that they’ve just landed, along with a photo of a black patent stiletto trimmed with a Horsebit.

For people waiting on a glamorous fashion show, the first thing Gucci showed was a conversation among people waiting on a delivery. A pair of shoes not yet out of the box is work for some and an object of desire for others. The show’s title lands right between the two: The Store Show.

The Gucci that Demna presented in Milan on September 25, 2026, was broad. Propriety borrowed from riding clothes, black tailoring that wrapped the body narrowly, chains and fringe, inflated leather jackets, and draped gowns at the end. The first impression was of a store stocked with everything at once. Customers who love Gucci for different reasons each had something to stop in front of.

And yet, with so much gathered in one place, it felt quieter than before. The decoration hadn’t disappeared, and the body wasn’t simply less exposed. This time, it was fairly quick to read which clothes were meant for which person.

What interested me was that clarity. While assembling Gucci’s many faces, Demna also proposed the people who would choose among them. In this show, the store became a way of organizing Gucci’s identity.

How Demna’s First Year Arrived at the Store

Demna’s appointment at Gucci was announced in March 2025, and he officially started that July. His work since then has gradually changed how closely he engages with the house.

In La Famiglia, the people came first. What someone looks like in particular clothes, how wealth and taste come through in gesture, sat in the foreground. The clothes were presented as belongings of people already living a certain life. The Generation Gucci lookbook kept showing a wardrobe through its people.

Primavera, the first runway in February 2026, dealt with the body and sensuality more directly. Clinging clothes, low waistlines, bare backs and Gucci’s markers drew the eye. Then GucciCore, shown in Times Square in May, proposed the basics of a wardrobe meant to last. The distance between clothes that build a character and clothes you’d actually wear again and again got shorter.

In a letter released ahead of this show, Demna wrote that he’d present his complete vision, based on what he’d learned since arriving. The Gucci he described is rooted in the desire to belong to a more glamorous world and the audacity to remake that world in your own image. It’s a house where propriety and sensuality, belonging and rebellion coexist.

The letter doesn’t explain Gucci’s history through design codes alone. Demna places personalities, identities and lifestyles inside that history. Who wears the Horsebit, and with what attitude, matters as much as where it’s attached.

So the breadth of this collection was, to some extent, planned. Focus Gucci on one kind of woman, and much of the world he described in his letter disappears. The person who picks an equestrian jacket, the one who wants a huge leather bomber and the one looking for a clinging evening gown all have to be able to walk into the same store. The question is whether they can form a single collection just because they buy the same brand, and the answer lies in the clothes that connect them.

Showing the Store While Stores Are Closing

The title The Store Show also overlaps with Gucci’s business reality.

According to Kering’s first-half 2026 results, Gucci’s second-quarter revenue was €1.41 billion, down 2 percent year over year on a comparable basis, with directly operated retail also down 2 percent. That retail decline was 7 percentage points better than in the first quarter. Over the same half, the group’s directly operated store network shrank by 84 on a net basis, a figure that should be kept separate from Gucci’s own closures.

Growth by adding doors has given way to a period when making people want to walk into the stores that remain matters more. There’s no need to read the title as a direct translation of management policy. Still, it means something that at a moment when the brand has to revive both the appeal of its products and its customers’ response, Demna put the store first.

Gucci’s world is already widely known. Now it has to show, concretely, what you’d want to buy inside that world. Admiring a vast image and choosing one garment in front of a rail are two different things, and this show leans toward closing that gap.

The work chat in the teaser reads differently here. Luxury’s fantasy is completed by production schedules, color assignments and boxes waiting to arrive. Demna didn’t leave that process backstage. The reality of the people who make desirable objects sat at the show’s entrance.

A Store Is Where You Imagine the Customer

The backdrops for the women’s looks move from blue-lit windows and a garden to a pink-toned building facade. The warm floor inside plays against the cool colors outside, and figures passing in the background add a sense of life to the frame. It’s easier to imagine someone wearing these clothes on her way somewhere than it would be in a space where garments stand alone.

You could read this as moving the character study that began with La Famiglia into the store. The same clothes take on a different attitude depending on whose wardrobe they enter. For the customer with a sweater draped over her shoulders, Gucci is a familiar part of life. For the one layering fringe and a corset belt, it becomes a way to make herself more visible.

The Savoy hotel that Demna invokes in his letter carries a similar meaning. People from different backgrounds meet in one glamorous place. Gucci’s stores make that meeting concrete through clothes and accessories. Nobody has to dress like anyone else, but every outfit should carry a trace of the same house.

Here the store becomes a demanding format. More choices can mean more customers, but the brand’s impression blurs easily. What this show had to demonstrate was the taste that ties the products together, as well as their quantity.

Propriety and Sensuality Across Four Blocks

The 43 women’s ready-to-wear looks read roughly as four blocks: equestrian and bourgeois dressing, black tailoring, embellishment and exaggerated outerwear, and evening. The blocks aren’t walled off, though. A leather mini and bare legs appear early, and dresses, prints and even denim slip into the black middle stretch.

Calling looks 1 to 12 simply “old money” misses the unstable proportions inside them. The riding jacket, white trousers and boots of the first look summon a familiar upper-class image. Right after come a sweater draped over the shoulders and a blue shirt. But in look 3, a long leather coat loosens that propriety, and look 5’s body-hugging leather mini puts sensuality on display from the start.

The short hemlines, tights and decorative outer layers of looks 6 and 7 don’t settle into a demure daytime wardrobe either. The cobalt and deep red coats build presence through color more than shape. By looks 10 and 11, with a trench and a white shirtdress, the wardrobe swings back toward the familiar everyday.

Demna shows plenty of proper Gucci while slipping in something slightly excessive from the beginning. An over-raised shirt collar, a short hem, leather that’s almost too sleek, legs on full view. He doesn’t add sensuality suddenly at the end.

In looks 13 to 24, repeated black and dark colors make the body’s lines easier to read. A gap opens between the top’s hem and the skirt’s waistline, and trousers either stop short or fall long around the legs. Look 13’s jacket leaves skin below its front, and look 23 reveals a bra and midriff inside a full black coat. The formal exterior and the body visible within it say different things.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 14

Reading this whole stretch as a Tom Ford reprise isn’t enough either. The sharp black and the tension of exposure recall that era, but the enlarged shoulders and the torso cut short carry Demna’s own way of working. This stretch moves a past sensuality into present-day cutting and styling.

From look 25 on, the density of leopard, layered chains, wide belts and fringe rises. The bombers, shirts, knits and tartans that begin at look 30 inflate the upper body and let several hems trail below. The clothes remain proper even as the volume around the body becomes exaggerated.

The final looks, 38 to 43, bring voluminous outerwear, lace, a glittering mini, and long dresses in black, purple and nude. The ending is glamour, yet bags and shoes still complete specific outfits to the very last. It’s a different choice from a finale that leaves only the dress, displayed like sculpture.

Restraint Comes from Placement More Than Quantity

The show feels quiet, but not because there are fewer showy elements. Leopard, chains, fur-effect outerwear and glittering eveningwear are all there. When a strong element appears, though, the rest is left relatively easy to read.

Look 25’s leopard coat takes over the whole body, but the black below and the pointed shoes tidy the outline. Under look 30’s inflated leather bomber sits the broad, simple plane of gray trousers. In look 38, the more the outerwear billows, the narrower and sharper the black pencil skirt inside becomes.

Black doesn’t stay in one role either. Early on, it sets up contrast with white shirts and trousers. In the middle, it’s the ground that shows the border between cut and skin. Later, it absorbs differences in the density of lace, shine and embellishment. Repeating the same color softens the shock of changing garment types.

Color shifts its character in between. The cobalt and deep red coats project bourgeois confidence through broad, uninterrupted fields of color, while the red and blue of tartan and the plum of knitwear overlap to reveal a more private taste. In the finale’s purple and nude, pattern disappears and color flows long along the body.

This calibration matters more than counting the women’s looks into four blocks. Proper clothes carry exposure, and exaggerated clothes keep familiar shirts and bags. Whenever Demna introduces an unfamiliar silhouette, he leaves a familiar element to return to.

The Horsebit Speaks Gucci Beyond the Loafer

It stays with you that the first object revealed in the teaser was a Horsebit pump.

The Horsebit is the ornament that carried equestrian imagery into Gucci’s everyday objects. The metal hardware appeared on a loafer in 1953, then spread to bags and clothing to become a house signature. This time it appears as a small detail near the collar of the first women’s jacket and repeats across pointed pumps in several blocks.

On a loafer, the Horsebit suggests practicality and ease together. On a thin, high heel with a long pointed toe, the same hardware turns sharper. Codes of riding and formality survive on a nighttime shoe, which shows the relationship between propriety and sensuality described in the letter at its smallest scale.

The alternation of boots and pumps shapes the show’s flow too. Early on, boots set a sleek, solid black plane under white trousers. Midway, pumps expose the instep and finish the ends of shortened trousers and skirts. Even after the tartans and bombers arrive, sharp toes keep repeating, so the exaggerated volume up top doesn’t make the whole figure look heavy.

Gucci’s impression holds through small repetitions like these, without printing house codes over entire garments. The shoe team’s group chat turned out to be more than a teaser device: across the collection, shoes became one of the products linking very different customers’ wardrobes.

The Bags: What Remains After Choosing the Clothes

Bags play a slightly different role from clothing. If the clothes distinguish each character, the bags keep reminding you that they all walked into the same store.

Early on, GG canvas creates a familiar Gucci impression beside the equestrian jackets and the trench. The small chain bag in the first look barely covers the body. Next to the lines drawn by the nipped-in jacket, white trousers and long boots, it leaves a small marker. The clothes lead the silhouette, while the bag supplies the house signature.

In the black stretch, the shape and surface of handheld bags matter more. Dark, structured bags echo the tailoring’s outline, and look 14’s vivid magenta bag creates a standalone field of color against an outfit organized almost entirely in black. It reveals a customer’s taste without adding color to the clothes.

Small round bags show up as chains and fringe multiply, and in the layered preppy stretch, the bags at the side read together with the volume of the clothes. Not every outfit gets the same bag shape. Instead, the scale and carrying position shift with each character.

The white bag beside the nude gown at the end is especially clear. In an outfit where long drapery follows the body, a small, crisp object remains. It completes the evening fantasy while keeping in view a product you could still pick out in a store.

The show’s commercial side gains its credibility in places like this. You don’t have to accept the full styling to enter that world through a pair of shoes or a single bag. The looks build strong characters, and the accessories give anyone drawn to those characters a practical way into the look.

Five Looks, Where Different Guccis Meet

The five looks represent the four blocks and, at the same time, show the connections between them. What matters is which era each recalls, along with where the proportions of familiar clothes shift.

Look 1: Riding Clothes for the City

The navy jacket sets the shoulders square, cinches the waist, then flares slightly above the hips. The white shirt collar rises high to open the area around the face, and a small metal ornament near the lapel marks the edge. White trousers follow the legs, and long black boots hold the lower half firmly.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 1
Gucci Spring 2027 Look 1

What shows first in this look is posture more than decoration. The narrowed waist, straight shoulders and raised collar give the impression of a body that has arranged itself. Riding clothes move from their functional origins into the attitude of a woman who lives in the city.

White is used with real precision here. The collar near the face and the long plane of the legs connect across the dark jacket, so even with a dark jacket and boots, the outfit doesn’t close in heavily. The small GG bag at her fingertips is too small to interfere with that contrast.

It’s a look to put by the store’s entrance. It brings the house’s memory back quickly, and it’s easy to picture the jacket and boots worn separately. As an opening look, it makes Gucci’s familiarity feel desirable again.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 18
Gucci Spring 2027 Look 18

Look 18: A Shortened Torso and Bare Calves

Look 18 pairs a short black top with pronounced shoulders and trousers that end below the knee. A thin line of skin remains between top and bottom, and open-vamp pumps finish the lower half.

The center of this look is the cropped torso and the trouser length. Top and bottom are the same black, yet they don’t join into one long suit. The gap at the waist and the exposed calves split the black plane.

The broader the shoulders, the narrower the waist below looks. The shorter the trousers, the more the shoe’s toe stands out. In an outfit with little decoration, proportion itself creates tension, and you become conscious of the body even in proper tailoring.

This look explains the show’s restraint well. Without striking color or large ornament, the placement of the hemline alone leaves a strong impression.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 33

Look 33: The Short Jacket That Organizes Tartan

In look 33, a striped knit and a white shirt layer beneath a short black jacket, and a red tartan skirt falls below the knee. Multiple necklaces, tinted lenses, and a shirt collar and cuffs showing outside complicate the outfit.

This look needs to be seen apart from the inflated bombers around it. The upper-body volume that swelled in looks 30 to 32 is relatively contained here. Instead, clashing patterns and shirt ends come forward. Even within the same preppy stretch, exaggeration moves between volume and ornament.

Tartan, shirts and knits all come with rules. Here those rules don’t lock together at once. The shirt stays long beneath the knit, the necklaces draw more lines over the pattern, and the color of the lenses adds another expression to the face. It feels like a long-worn wardrobe to which taste keeps getting added.

An outfit like this can’t be explained by the exaggerated silhouettes of the Balenciaga years alone. Gucci’s memory of a decorative, personal wardrobe is here too, meeting Demna’s sense of proportion.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 38
Gucci Spring 2027 Look 38

Look 38: A Narrow Body Inside Big Outerwear

Look 38’s golden outerwear forms a large oval around the shoulders and arms. Inside sit a black lace top and a body-hugging pencil skirt. The billowing outside and the narrow inside contrast at a glance.

The coat recreates the color and texture associated with fox fur, but Gucci has followed a fur-free policy since Spring/Summer 2018. What matters here is the luxurious look of that surface and its exaggerated volume.

The lace doesn’t fully reveal the body, yet it keeps the inner contour visible. The skirt’s narrow plane and the horizontal wrinkles it catches leave the sense of a real body inside the huge coat. Add sunglasses and pointed pumps, and the outfit suggests someone more at ease with showing herself than with modesty.

If the earlier bombers enlarged the volume outside the body, here the same question of volume carries into the tactility of evening. Exaggerated outerwear links the two blocks, and the show goes beyond a display that simply sorts different clothes.

Look 43: Drape and a White Bag

The finale is an asymmetric gown in nude. Fabric falling from one shoulder crosses the torso on the diagonal, and a deep slit reveals the line of the leg. A small white bag stays in her hand.

In the first look, the jacket’s cut organized the body’s shape. In the last, the flow of fabric follows its curves. The show moves from a starting point that set the shoulders and waist firmly to an endpoint where cloth leans on the body to find its form.

Nude lowers the contrast between skin and garment and makes the diagonal folds and shifts in light easier to see. Glamour moves from surface decoration to the body’s lines, so even the method of sensuality keeps changing to the end.

The white bag draws a small, clear outline beside that flow. Even at the show’s close, the figure of someone wearing clothes and carrying an object remains. Even the finale stays within the logic of the store.

How the Balance Shifts on the Wearer’s Body

The collection offers many kinds of clothes, but not every proportion is easy. In fact, the biggest differences by body type show up in the first look, the one that seems most familiar.

White trousers with black boots separate the thighs from the lower legs by color. Light trousers reveal the contour of the lower body, and the boot opening draws a line mid-leg. The jacket’s nipped waist also plays against the hips. If you’d rather minimize lower-body volume, taking the jacket on its own is more flexible than the full equestrian combination.

Wearing a short top with capri trousers, as in look 18, multiplies the points where the body gets cut: the waist, the trouser hem and the instep are each exposed. For shorter women, where on the calf the trousers end and how much of the foot the shoe reveals matter a lot. Rather than copying the runway length, it’s better to find the endpoint that looks most natural on your own legs.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 17
Gucci Spring 2027 Look 17

A bomber with a tartan skirt doesn’t automatically lighten the lower body either. A big top can balance the hips, but if the bomber’s hem hits their widest point, it adds volume right there. Add a below-the-knee skirt and socks, and the whole figure splits into several sections.

For many bodies, the easier approach is to separate the combination. Pair the tartan skirt with a short jacket that has neat shoulders, or pair a voluminous bomber with dark straight trousers. Showing a shirt collar and cuffs is enough to keep this season’s layering.

Long coats and trenches help establish a vertical line, but the volume of the shoulders and sleeves needs checking too. Big outerwear like look 38 makes an unmistakable statement, but on a small frame it can overwhelm the face and body. Being easy to wear as a single piece and having proportions that work for everyone aren’t the same thing.

The simplest bridge to a real wardrobe is the Horsebit pump, a small bag, and layered shirts and knits. Without copying an entire character, you can bring home the gap between propriety and exaggeration that this Gucci emphasized.

Can a Portrait of the Customer Become a Vision?

Right after the show, ELLE’s Matthew Velasco read the collection as a parade of familiar characters given a Demna twist, noting even gestures like adjusting sunglasses and browsing display cases. In other words, the attitude of someone shopping appeared alongside the clothes.

That reading touches both the show’s strength and its limit. When the characters are clear, the clothes read easily. You can imagine which store someone would walk into and what she’d pick. But when the character types are too familiar, the clothes risk remaining scenes we already know. A wealthy woman, a rebellious prep, nighttime glamour: those categories alone don’t make a new Gucci.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 31
Gucci Spring 2027 Look 31

For me, the connecting currents in this collection were more convincing than the categories. The raised collar of the first look survives in the later layering, and skin shows under proper jackets from early on. The bombers’ volume leads into look 38’s lavish outerwear, and the Horsebit pumps keep tidying the feet of very different outfits.

In some stretches, though, the familiarity registers too quickly. Outfits gathering chains, corset belts and fringe complete their characters the instant they appear, which also leaves little room for interpretation. The stronger Demna’s character observation gets, the more he needs moments when a character makes an unexpected choice.

This season’s achievement lies in keeping Gucci’s breadth while making the criteria for choosing clothes clear. Not every look is equally new, but even with different customers gathered in one space, the brand’s impression doesn’t scatter. Repeated bags and shoes, adjusted shoulders and waists, and small exaggerations left inside propriety do that work.

What Remains After a Well-Organized Store

The question this show leaves isn’t whether there are enough products to want. It’s why those products have to be today’s Gucci.

A riding jacket and a trench, a tartan skirt and a leather bomber are each familiar clothes. This collection’s personality lives in the gaps between them. A proper shirt collar raised too high, a little skin left beneath a jacket, heavy chains layered over a knit that recalls a private school. Clothes anyone recognizes, never worn quite as expected.

In that sense, The Store Show sat closer to a vision. Rather than copying Gucci’s past era by era, it focused on the present-day taste of the people choosing those clothes. Demna’s judgment came into focus especially when the proper and exaggerated stretches borrowed each other’s elements.

Gucci Spring 2027 Look 37
Gucci Spring 2027 Look 37

For the store’s clarity to remain a strength, though, it also needs clothes that go beyond familiarity. The ability to offer exactly what customers want and the ability to make them want something they didn’t know they wanted have to move together. This show proved much stronger at satisfying existing desire than at creating new desire.

Demna gathered many people who could wear Gucci into one store, and largely made them look like customers of the same house even as each chose something different. The strongest clothes in it were the ones that made familiar Gucci codes feel slightly unfamiliar again.

Walking in for something recognizable and finding a version of yourself you hadn’t expected: that possibility was where Demna’s vision showed most clearly.
